An actress and an actor have a non-monogamous relationship. A director proposes to them to create a play about their love story. They decide to live together and create the play. They rehearse. They try it out. They expose themselves completely on stage. On the one hand, a couple explores other ways of living love. On the other, a stage creation reveals the need to set limits when making a play. What is agreed and what happens in the present during this rehearsal? Is it really a rehearsal or is it a closed play? Where is the border between reality and fiction?

Through a deep and embodied research process and working with local materials, The Intricate Dance investigates the living materiality of the river Segadell (Ribes de Freser). Inspired by Jane Bennett’s text Vibrant Matter: A Political Ecology of Things (2022), the film lets itself loose in a play of light and shadow, creating a filmic piece shot in super-8 that approaches the confines of the gaze, beyond the human.
